About
This year New Zealand’s internationally recognized and award winning festival – Rhythm and Vines – is moving onto a sunny stage in Thailand with what will be the beginning of a sister festival.
Hosting upwards of 25 000 people and some of the world’s biggest acts both in the North and South Islands of New Zealand, the new arm of Rhythm and Vines will run on a monthly basis on the sands of yet a new island – Koh Phangan, one of the world’s most renowned party locations.
Festival Director Hamish Pinkham is excited about taking New Zealand’s largest festival off shore just before Rhythm and Vines celebrates its 10 year anniversary at the end of 2012, and offering the travelling world a taste of ‘kiwi’ party culture, whilst maintaining the wonderful sunny backpacking culture Thailand is known for.
Rhythm and Sands will be a work in progress over 2012, but a major focus will be to bring increasingly bigger international acts that are not normally seen outside of Bangkok nightclub events. In past, Rhythm and Vines (NZ) has seen massive internationals like Chase and Status, Carl Cox, Major Lazer, N.E.R.D., Moby, High Contrast, Mt Eden Dubstep, John Butler Trio, Public Enemy, The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, Boyz Noize, Justice and many more.
Another Major focus will be to provide the island with the safety, security, and peace of mind of a western festival, but without detracting from the exotic, inherent beauty that the Thai experience has to offer. However, making sure people do not have to worry about the less attractive elements that some of the localparties have become known for in Thailand is of great importance. This willextend to accommodation and on-island travel and taxi options in an effort to make sure the experience is of the highest calibre from the moment it starts until the moment our party goer returns home.
